Is it possible to get a cheaper rate at a hotel by just showing up that night without an advance reservation?

I'm looking to drive in on 3/18 and leave 3/20.

No, you will usually pay more because they know you are going to need a place to sleep that night and haven't planned ahead. It's just like when you show up at the ticket counter at the airport and are looking for a flight to take you home.

I have had clients attending trade shows/conventions that were able to get cheaper rates than the offered rate, but that was because their organization was getting a kickback....and it was during the first part of the week. Wouldn't recommend doing that during A) Spring Break time, B) A weekend, and C) St. Patrick's Day weekend...some will still be partying the day after.

There's so many good deals out there now, why risk it and have the hassle.

3/18-3/20 = prime NCAA tournament time + weekend = expensive room rates.

If you want to stay on the strip, pay up.

Aint going to happen, Last time my uncle made a very dumb decision to go up to Vegas with his girlfriend without a reservation and he had to cough up 265 dollars for that night.
