I am looking at some job opportunities in Las Vegas, most of them being on the strip. I would be moving there with my fiancee, looking to live in a decent part of town, with low crime, and and won't break the bank.

Do you think it's going to be hard to get a job with a AZ address and number, should I get a temporary address and cell phone with a las vegas area code?

How do the casinos pay compared to regular hotels in other cities, say I would be working front desk at the flamingo, what can I expect?

Right now in Phoenix we make about $3000 after taxes a month and live comfortably. No debt or car payments.

Welcome I am glad to see you are leaving that horrible police state. Unfortunately, the job market here is very tough right now (even worse than Phoenix), but I do not think it will matter that you have an AZ address right now. I like the area around Flamingo and Maryland PKWY. The rent is cheap and it is very close to the strip. I used to walk from there from the strip to my apartment at 3 in the morning and never had any problems so I felt safe. Here is a video that was on the news today about the job situation.

The job market in Las Vegas right now could not be any tighter. Unfortunately, the type of job you are seeking also is not a "what you know" job; it is a "WHO you know job".

Good luck though and congratulations!

Most of the casino/hotel jobs in Vegas are juice jobs especially now with the current economic situation.

So even though there is 50-100+ hotel jobs, it's all about WHO you know?

There certainly are "juice" jobs...but front desks is generally not in that set. Cocktail waitresses, bartenders, valets..high tip jobs. .

It is however a very tight job market with heavy competiton for what is available.

"juice" is literally some form of payment.

YOu know somebody. Sometimes the guy who runs valet...or manages the bar. Or you pay somebody...who recommends you.

I know a few guys who work in the bar at Planet Hollywood but they haven't been much help.

My school program has some options, and I will be transfernig to UNLV for the hospitality management program.

most of the jobs you are seeing are "on call" or part time.. you cannot rely on these jobs for income... at the M, they are always hiring "on call" but you will be lucky to get 10 hours a week..

also, i completely disagree on one thing.. The front desk IS a juice job.. it IS all about who you know.. I do not work one of the "premium" positions, but if i wouldn't have known someone (very high up, i might add), i wouldn't have even gotten a call
