I'm a woman in my 40's here on business, but have my nights free......where can I go to have a drink and not be the oldest person there? Not that I'm totally object to a little "cougar-ism", but I'd like my prey to be older than my child

Well, I could let you know where I'll be, then you won't be the oldest one there. Ha, ha.

Hey, I'm a cute old dude.

What's that Carol? Oh nothing honey. I'm just talking.

To answer your question ...just about anywhere. There are 10,986 bars on the Strip. Pick any of them.

CAUTION: 40 year-oldish cougars sitting at a bar alone in Las Vegas....are often mistaken to be working.

Wow, smart-alecky regulars!

I would say that any bar you go to is fine as long as you veer away from the "clubs". Believe me, you won't feel uncomfortable.

I'm signed up for the LV specials on thrillist.com. I got this one a couple of days ago and it sounded like a place I would would choose if I were looking for somewhere nice while killing my evening hours on a work assignment. It's located at Mandalay Bay.

"Michael Mina's StripSteak hosts a fun-time hooking you up with drink specials like $3 beers and $7 cocktails (mojitos, margs, and the StripSteak Sour with 12yr blended whiskey, lemon, and sugar), plus half-priced eats like oysters, spice-poached Gulf Prawns, bacon-wrapped lobster fritters, a trio of duck fat fries (herb, truffle, BBQ), and sliders made of American Kobe ..." $7 for a nice cocktail in a swanky location sounds like a bargain to me.

I think the come-on is to get you drunk enough in the bar so you'll go to the restaurant and order one of their $50 dinners, but if you're like me and they give the option to order an appetizer at the bar, I'd go for that as dinner. Here's the Website if you want to see what StripSteak looks like:
http://mandalaybay.com/dining/StripSteak.aspx

You can subscribe to Thrillist by E-mail or Twitter. Thrillist | A daily email shot of food, drinks, services, gadgets, gear, sports and travel. A lot of their stuff is too trendy/over-the-top for someone as cranky as I am, and a lot of it is just flat-out advertising not even discounted (albeit for hip products) but every once in awhile they clue you in to a special like the one at Mandalay. Some Thrillist cities have daily offers, but Las Vegas' come much less frequently. It's the only city I'm signed up for, so I don't know what the others have. It's supposedly not just restaurants.

I traveled on business, often alone, for more than 15 years. It got me over any funny feelings of being alone with myself just about anywhere. And I talked to lots of interesting people (and just as many boors) and saw a lot of the country, getting most of it covered by my per diem -- so it was a great thing to have done. Have a good time no matter where you go!

Exactly what it sounds like. French fries fried in duck fat. Before you think it's somehow more unhealthy than a french fry, it's actually very high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (the good kind). It also helps that they are absolutely delicious finished with some Maldon sea salt and a bit of truffle oil.

Blue Martini in town square might be a good spot for you. In fact, there are quite a few drinking establishments there.

As has been said, pick a center bar at any casino.
