We are flying into Vegas next month from NC. The first couple days we are taking a trip to LA. We plan to rent a car at the airport and leave from there. Any recommendations on a company to use? I am 24 years old, that may matter as far as prices go. Thanks.

I always use Alamo. Whatever company you choose, be sure to tell them that the car will be driven out of state, to make sure you're not breaking any rules and to be fully covered in case of an accident, theft or damage while out-of-state.

I personally like Dollar, but go online and check the prices for the various size cars and go with the best offer. I make the reservation online and if I find something cheaper, I cancel the higher reservation. The earlier you book, usually, the cheaper the price. JfkIII is right... be sure to tell them the car will be driven to CA.

Renting from the airport is always the most expensive way to go because of the convenience and frequently there are extra taxes if you rent at the airport versus another location - if you can figure out a way to get to a non-airport rental location you'll save a ton. You should also price shop via places like priceline and the other online bookers.

You're under 25, so you will be subject to a surcharge at most rental companies. Do a little research or you may find yourself paying a huge surcharge for being 24.

Also, if you haven't done it yet, check what kind of coverage you have for rental cars on your auto insurance - hopefully you have a policy. If you don't have insurance, and were planning on your credit card providing the coverage, check to make sure it will function as primary coverage. IIRC, I've seen some which would only be secondary to your own insurance - they would pay the deductible, but your own insurance had to be the primary insurer on a claim.

Awesome, thanks. Does anyone have anything to say about the McCarran Rental Car site near the airport?

Very convenient, easy access to I-15 and I-215, plus regular, free shuttle service from the terminals (about a 7-minute ride on the bus), just outside the baggage claim area.

MUCH better than the way it was a few years ago, IMHO.

For the locals note that both McCarran and the strip catch the airport tax. You save a lot by going off that area. There are Hertz and Enterprise operations on Sahara that caters to that business. Ten minute cab ride that saves a bundle. Have exotics like Jags avaiable often .
