HI All,

My husband is in F1 pursuing his MBA and going to complete in May 2014. Myself and my minor kid is planning to apply for F2 recently. I have few questions which will help me take a proper decision:

1) If I apply for F2 now, and if it gets approved, will I be able to travel when my husband is in OPT(i.e after May 2014) ?

2) If I travel before his F1 ends, can we continue to stay until his OPT ends?

3) If we are applying with his I20, after May 2014 will we need to apply for new I20? (during his OPT period)

4) Shall I travel in F2 after his F1 is over and if he is in OPT period or should I travel before it expires?

Pls throw some light on these questions.....

First off, to get the F-2 visa, you need a copy of his I-20. And you should be able to stay during his OPT. Employment for you is not authorized.

Which country are you from? For F-2 visa, the university where your husband is studying has to provide an I-20 document which shows sufficient funds are there to support you. If I-20 is there, then you should go atleast few months before he graduates. After Graduation is complete, it will be difficult for university to provide I-20 for OPT and difficult for embassy to give visa. Difficult but it is within the law.
Again which country is important? F-2 visa is a breeze if you are from Germany but difficult of you are from Hyderabad, India.
