I'm for a lot of legal immigration. Probably more than the 2 million option. Many workers south of the border should be coming here legally rather than illegally. I don't care much if people come here are poor, if they are willing to work hard.
I wanted to separate the percentage option from the whole number selections. I did know that .1% was about 330,000 people. That option was added because it provides for a steady inflow balanced against our overall population at any given time.
Be careful about social security and economy worries. Many immigrants bring in their grandparents who are eligible for SSI even though they never worked a day in this country. That alone could sap social security. If you say let's bring in 2 million skilled people, I can tell you that those sort of immigrants do not have a lot of kids and we've then dug an even deeper hole for ourselves. As one of the planets most advanced economies, we need to be one of the first to figure out how to host a robust economy without population growth, because whether you like it or not, the world will stop growing pretty dam soon.
Unless you want to ban abortions worldwide and roll back women's rights to 1850.
