Eddie Sachs -- A Native Son Remembered (Allentown, Indiana: designs, vehicle)

Just thought it might be appropriate to recall the 50th anniversary of the tragic loss of Allentown's own Eddie Sachs, in a monstrous accident on the fourth turn at Indianapolis, in the 1964 "500".

Eddie Sachs was an unapologetic loyalist to the "traditional" or "championship" racing vehicle; ironically, it was the experimentation with European "Formula I" and other designs, including gasoline, rather than ethanol fuel at the time, which led to the carnage which took his life.

Sachs said in a number of interviews that his one great ambition was Victory Lane at Indianapolis; though he never fulfilled that dream, there are a few of us who still remember.
