Where do you see the Lehigh Valley region in 2030, fifteen years from now? It is growing fast apparently, and new business buildings are being built. Does the region have a chance to become a true CITY, comparable with places like pittsburgh and cleveland? or will it never become that big of an urban hub?

It will never be a true city. It is a medium sized hub between NY and Philadelphia. Obvious improvements have been made and the area should be strong by 2030 provided we do not blow ourselves to bits in the meantime.

Prediction is for growth at about 1% a year. Which is slightly higher than the national average and fairly high for Pennsylvania where most of the counties are losing population.

It will be sufficient to keep Lehigh Valley ahead of Harrisburg and Lancaster, unless the census bureau decide that H&L are now a single urban area.

I think the Valley could pass Dayton, but certainly not Cleveland or Pittsburgh.

This map shows PA counties that lost population in last census

Frankly, I'm fine with the size of our area right now. I want all of our cities to be healthy and crime to go down, but I have no desire for growth and more people. If we wanted to live in a huge metro area we would have stayed where we were. We moved here because we liked what we saw.

We can't be a true city because we're not built like a true city - there is Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, and all the boroughs and townships in between. The closest thing to a "true city" is not being able to tell where Allentown ends and Bethlehem begins, somewhere over near Club Avenue & Union Blvd.
