I will be moving to the Lehigh county area, I'm curious as to where i can find the most affordable rentals in a decent area? Everything I've looked at has been in Allentown or Bethlehem. I don't want to spend a cent over $900 a month, the lower the better, any suggestions? I'm going to be taking a trip out to PA in March to find a place to live, I really don't know where to start, any help would be appreciated! I need at least a 2 bedroom, my brother is coming with me. I'm coming from Minnesota so I'm completely clueless about PA. Help!

The safest places to live imho, are in West Allentown or North Bethlehem. By west I mean around Cedar Crest Avenue in Allentown and in Bethlehem on the North side of the River, close to Main Street and Moravian College. I really don't know the prices of apartments but you can read the classifieds of the local paper, The Morning Call, on line at Lehigh Valley news, Allentown news, Bethlehem news, pocono news, Easton news from The Morning Call and mcall.com -- themorningcall.com You do not want to live in Center City Allentown.

Some other towns that you could check into are Hellertown, Emmaus, Whitehall, Macungie, Coopersburg, Center Valley. I'm sure you could find a rental within your price range, but you may need to go to the different towns and drive around. I know where I live there are apartment and home rentals, but most of them are not advertised in the paper. Most people just put a sign up in the window of the apartment or a for rent sign in the front yard.

One more idea that just came to me. Check with local realtors and see if they have rentals. When we moved here, we found a realtor who also worked as a property manager. She had 4 rentals available that met our criteria. When we got here, we toured each rental and chose the one we wanted.

Thank you both for the advice, I'll check the paper and those areas. I hadn't thought of the realtor angle, I could try to persue that. My worry is that I'll only have one week in March to set up living arrangements, driving around neighborhoods looking for possible rentals worries me, my sense of direction is hideous!

Ah, then your first purchase should be the ADC book map of the Greater Lehigh Valley. That includes both A-town and Bethlehem. You can buy one at any Giant grocery store or even on line. just do a google search. You could also contact realtors before you get here so they can start looking now.

Any ideas on how to get in touch with local realtors who also manage rentals? Thanks for the heads up about the map, I purchased one right away!

Hopefully FLhereicome will give you his/her realtors name via a PM. Or perhaps Jeff Vivian, a realtor that's been recently posting on this forum can help.

Oh, yeah, check out the Allentown Craigslist. Even though it's called Allentowns, it serves the whole valley.
