The last Carnegie Deli will close the end of December, 2017 about 1 year after its New York City store closed. I've never eaten at the one in the Sands, but I used to stop at their New York City store when I was in the city.

Any place left in the Lehigh Valley where you can get a decent pastrami sandwich and a half sour pickle?

I don't have an answer. When I was a little kid, we bought pastrami and pickles from the deli on Market Street on the Heights in Wilkes-Barre. Pickles from a barrel. HUD decided that the whole place should disappear, and it did. Almost none of those old guys could afford to or had enough strength to start again. Kaplan Furniture and Kranson (clothes) moved. Stanley's Bike Shop, too. Last time I saw a pickle in a barrel.

Q. "Mom, why does Mr. XYZ wear a long sleeved shirt when it's really hot and humid?
A. "He doesn't want you to see his tattoo."

How did HUD decide this?

There's Syb's Westend in Allentown.

I thought it was ok but I also work for a Jewish institution with a Kosher cafeteria. I'm a little biased with pastrami and latkes. And their pickles were Dill, not half sour.

About as hard as it is to find a real philly cheesesteak.
