I'm moving to Lexington soon, and I was wondering if there were any Catholic parishes in the area that were considered "progressive". By that, I mean parishes that are very active in social justice and peace ministries, welcome all people, and are somewhat diverse. I do like traditional liturgies, so a mixture of those characteristics would be nice. What is the Holy Spirit Parish like at the UK? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks all!
Well, if no one can comment on "progressive" parishes, can anyone comment on their respective parishes and those they have visited? Just trying to narrow my search a little.
We just moved here last summer also, and are having a hard time finding a Catholic church that fits our bill (which sounds a lot like yours). We are looking into the UU church but have not gone yet.
Wish I could give you more input. Good luck. The area is not very "Catholic" from my observations.
@BrewCityMama: Yeah, the vast majority of the South is not a very Catholic area, and Lexington is actually better than the area I'm coming from. I'd like to stick with a Catholic parish, rather than another denomination (I guess the one I would like most otherwise would be Episcopal). I think the Newman Center at UKY will be most like what I want. You should check out its website and read its description. Seems like it could be a good fit. I'll have to drop by and see.

There are unfortunatley not many to pick from. Depends on how important conveinence is to you. We moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh, where there is a Catholic Church on every corner. We church jumped for 2 years but have finally settled in at Elizabeth Ann Seton or SEAS as they like to call it. The pastor Fr. John is a terrific speaker. It is a very welcoming church but rather small in size. They appreciate and encourage lots of participation.
My family just moved here and we drive 20 miles to come to this church. We used to attend a university church in our last home, and we like this even more. The liturgy is wonderful and the community is welcoming.
