Been looking to move to Lexington, KY but the cost of houses is much higher than where I am currently living in TN. I was told to look outside Lexington and found a house in Winchester. What are your thoughts about this area? Thanks for any information.

Depends on your interests just like anywhere.
For me, I'd never live in Winchester. If I did, I'd go stir crazy.
There are terrific things in several towns in central KY--Midway, Georgetown, Paris, etc.
Winchester does have some good employment opportunities--Sekisui, Ale 8 One, Leggett & Platt, Amazon, Winchester Dairy Farms, etc and I think it's fairly safe and a good place to raise a family--although there's a fairly high number of petty crime. As far as stuff to do--this is where it lacks. To be blunt, there's not much.
The benefits though, you're close enough to Lexington (it's all interstate so it takes very little time). Plus you're maybe half an hour (depends on how fast you drive) from The Gorge (which is the most beautiful and grandiose part of Kentucky, imo.)
There's pluses and minuses anywhere. If cost is a big thing to you, I'd say Winchester is a great option.

Winchester is a nice little town. It's has some nicer areas, and some run down areas. It's totally safe. Lexington and Richmond are both 20 minutes away. However, if you're looking for a lot more to do within 5 or 10 minutes, you'd probably like Richmond better. All the other towns mentioned are also great places to live depending on what you're looking for.
Thanks everyone. I live in Sparta, TN (nothing to do here) which is in-between Knoxville and Nashville. Since Lexington is out of the question for affordability, I'm looking at areas around Lexington where in a short drive I can find things to do. I've looked at Versailles but not much there either. I love that town.
If you think Lexington is expensive I am moving there from Tampa next month after 15 years and its way way cheaper there compared to Central Florida. Rent for a nice 3 bedroom town home is 1000-1100 in Lexington and in Tampa around 1500-1700, car insurance 155 a month in Tampa 75 a month in Lexington. Pay-rates are very similar in all industries. The Positive vs Tennessee and Florida VS Kentucky is there is no income tax. But I heard the new administration is looking to lower the rates in the state. Three other people I know in the Tampa area moved to Lexington the last few years and it its dirt cheap compared to areas in the northeast and Florida in goods and services, the average is 13 inches of snow in Lex a Winter ill take that instead of overpriced rent and insurances, increasing crime and spending half my life in traffic.
People in lex think the one mile strip of traffic on Nicholsville road from MOW to New Circle is heavy traffic, they haven't seen traffic till they come to Tampa or Orlando. In central Florida you got tourists and new comers from 50 states and 100 countries which have no clue where they are going and how to get there which causes a very dangerous situation.

Based on the results I say on real estate websites Nicholasville would be your best bet at being in a town with lots of shopping and lots of houses under $100k. There are sub $100k homes all over Nicholasville in nice areas. Winchester is a nice town too, while smaller than Lexington it would feel much larger than the small town you're in now. Culturally N'ville and Winchester feel similar, a mix or rural blue collar and upper middle class residents.
I'd say you would get a lot more bang for your buck as far as RE goes, in Winchester, than the other areas. And the traffic going to Lex is better along Rt. 60, than getting there from Nicholasville.
If you like the Great Outdoors, Winchester is close to the Red River Gorge, a great camping/hiking area.
Winchester also has a great newish public library - not just books, but other materials plus programs of various kinds. Check it out!
