I am interested in the great urban tapestry of London. Do any of you Londoners know of paths or ways through a great number of neighborhoods both upscale and dicey. I want to pass by many native food options and pubs where you can make a great day of seeing the city and not just tourist things. I like to walk and get exercise, I want to feel the pulse of your magnificent city..
^^Thank You, I like how organized the directions to each place was. Can some Londoners please chime in to other out of the way places to walk and see native/ethnic London.
The list mentions the South Bank - I did a little bit further than that the other day by going from Surrey Quays in the east (opposite the financial district) to Vauxhall Bridge in the west. It goes through a range of residential areas and the touristy bits. Took about six hours including stops but was worth it.
I've taken many guided walks with London Walks, which go into every sort of neighborhood. Even if you choose not to go with them, their itinerary might give you some ideas. The canals are good for walking along, and take you though varying places.
^^^ Interesting, Did you stick to a specific path or street the whole time or did you weave your way into the general direction?
I basically followed this path along the riverside. There are some detours, but it's well signposted and you should be able to follow it with no problem.
The Thames river seems to be a good point to use to branch out north or south of the city. I like the looks of all of the foot bridges and flora and fauna. This should be a great walk..
