Is it just a matter of which one is closest to your neighbourhood? The neighbourhood you grew up in or the one you live in now? Is your choice based on an ancestral claim to the area? So many questions, so little wine (left in the bottle).

Go toffees.

Ancestral claim, family moved from London in the 1920's to the Isle of Wight. Dad used to take me to games when I was young he was a lifelong supporter, I am a 3rd generation Chelsea supporter my daughter is the 4th. I've even seen them play here in the US and they are having a belting season this year.

Up the Blues !!!!

My love of the mighty Spurs (Tottenham) comes from my maternal grandfather. They lived in Hackney not too far from the Spurs ground at White hart lane and he used to take my mum to games, I never got to games with him but used to watch the games on TV . My oldest now supports them too :-)

The closest club to me growing up was Crystal Palace but Chelsea were the closest of the 'glamour' London clubs, on my estate you either supported Palace or Chelsea and because the 'big' kids threatened to beat me up if I dared go with the Palace option I decided it was the blues for me! Also my grandfather was from Kensington.

You choose a team based on family heritage (who your parents support, usually) or location. There are a few other acceptable (if dubious) ways you might pick, such as personally knowing a particular player. Some people support a local non-league team as well as a prominent league team.

The only wholly unacceptable way to pick a team is choosing the team that is doing the best.

Yep like the amount of fake Man Utd supporters there are. My hubby supports a local league team Leyton Orient as closest club to him when growing up. youngest child supports them too as been to many games with him and we both hail from east london

They basically pick the best team and then invent ways to justify their allegiance.

The way I picked my team was simple, I liked the sound of the name, Everton. That and the fact that they seem to be the team supported more by the locals than by an international following. And their history of using North American players had some influence in my decision. And the fact that I would one day like to visit the city!

So why didn't you pick the better team in the city?
