The guys who serve you behind the counter dont really have much to profit by ripping you off for something you dont need.
Granted the mechanics themselves usually make a small commission, but the manager I believe is usually on salary.

I wouldn't be so sure that they don't make commission, or at least a bonus of some sort for the amount of money they help pull in.
I'm usually NOT one for more government, but it'd be great to have undercover state mechanics drop into service stations MORE OFTEN to make sure they're not ripping off customers.
