I believe a house that is larger than a the lot looks ridiculous, however if you are in an area that warrants a larger house then it does look appropriate. My home is 8500 and yes it's large but it fits in the area.. if my house was smaller it would look dumb.

used to be the 1890-1920 standard victorian or colonial was about 4000sf

I have lived in a 4 square colinial...4000sf, built in 1931
also have lived in an 1890 victorian with 4900sf

so where do they think that the 1980's started the 'mcmansions'...why just because people wanted to expand levit shacks???
