I always hear people say "that is too far" "what do you think I am a country boy / girl" when certain areas in Suffolk are brought up. I threw together a quick map below. What would be your threshold on distance from X? X being your main reason for being on LI in the first place.

A- (Blue) Nassau/Suffolk Border
B- (Red) Smithtown/Islip
C- (Gray) Sound Beach/Medford
D- (Yellow) Baiting Hollow/Westhampton
E- (Green) Riverhead/Southold/East Hampton/Montauk/Fishers Island

map is not perfect, this is just for kicks. You could put specifics (ie-YMMV) in reply posts.

meaning "too far", whatever that means to you. Some people I know think past A is too far, some think B, E, YMMV.

Oh BTW - The "A" in the map was Google's Default mark for "Long Island" when you enter that term in goog maps, that is NOT "A" in the poll choice.

I grew up in E and wouldn't want it any other way! When you're way out there it doesn't really feel like you live on Long Island. Wintertime especially my town was really small town- you know everyone and everyones business. No strip malls, closest mall over an hour away.

Some say thats the real Long Island.
