Hello!
I am moving to LI from Arizona. I will be working in 2 offices, mostly in plainview, sometimes in Patchogue. The only people I know in LI are my age (late 20s, early 30s) live in Long Beach. They say it's the best place around, but I don't know if that is a long commute.

Here's more about me.
I'm looking for a cool/hip town. I'd like to walk to bars, restaurants, etc.
I prefer to be close to a train station. I have friends in Brooklyn and Nj, so close to the city is best.
I'm looking to rent a 1br apt. Somewhere around $1400-$1900/mo.

So, is long beach the place? Are there any other towns near the city and near long beach and near plainview that I should consider? Help! thx!

Given your work locations I would say Babylon Village or Huntington should fit the bill.

I second Huntington. Train/Bars/Restaurants and between Plainview and Patchogue.
Long Beach is fun though but the commute to Patchogue would be rough.

I agree. Long Beach would be an arduous commute for you, especially to Patchogue.
Huntington and Babylon should work for you.

Wyandanch is right in the middle of both towns you will be working in, and you can get apartments/houses at reasonable prices.

The request was for a hip location with restaurants, bars, etc. within walking distance - no mention was made of "apartments at rasonable prices"

Wyandanch is not safe and does not fit the bill for what this poster asked for.

To the OP..Huntington is a great choice but it's far from those you know in Long Beach. Is that ok?

Why would you recommend something on the North Shore to someone who is obviously better suited on the South Shore. Why are you against Wyandanch?
It's hip. It has bars and restaurants in walking distance of some apartments. It fits the bill in regards to what the poster is looking for as far ad rent limitations go. It's central to both Patchogue and Plainview.

Default In case you are unfamiliar with the local geography

ArizonaOscar, in case you are unfamiliar with the local geography, I've sent you an explanation of the very, very confusing geography of "Lawn Guyland" as a DM (Direct Message).
