PS
I would agree on Sayville too.
I live down in DC now. My big-picture sense is that Stony Brook, like much of Long Island, was part of the Republican political machine for decades, though always very moderate in outlook, but the national Republican party went so far right that Long Islanders woke up and realized that the Republicans did not represent their views, so they started voting for moderate Democrats instead of moderate Republicans.

Lots of energy conscience people, pro-alternative energy people in my area too. There are lots of hybrids arounds here(still alot of pickup trucks too because alot of blue collar guys live here).
I'm new here and can't seem to figure out how to send a private message. Kelly, is there a way I can contact you to ask more questions about the North Fork?

Default Huntington Liberal?

Perhaps Huntington proper is more in the liberal vein, but you definitely won't see that in Huntington Bay or nearby parts of the Town of Huntington, like Centerport or Lloyd Harbor. These are lily-white and the residents intend to keep them that way. It's for this purpose of "exclusion" that they pay the very high taxes they pay, when they could go elsewhere for less. As a longtime resident, I can assure this is so, whether i'ts "right" or not.

I disagree with the stony brook comment saying the university and SB village don't interact much. Maybe 20 years ago, but there are almost 10k employees there, and they don't all commute from a 1/2 hour away....

Most of the faculty bought houses in this area... and they overall lean very left. Of course, there IS a segment of the non-university locals who DO frequently have more conservative attitudes than the SBU people... so, when it's summed up, the 3 village political attitude is a bit biphasic.

overall, 3 village I find to be a bit more progressive than huntington....
It's true, there's no east village on LI. I wish there was, though... it would spice up the place, for sure!

Default Reply to GCGuy

I think GCGuy's assessment very accurately sums up the prevailing view of the vast majority of my neighbors. Recently, a "woman of color" who is a live-in maid moved into the neighborhood, and is visited frequently by family members who stick out like sore thumbs. It's causing quite the controversy around here, and the neighborhood is all abuzz. People are really, really upset about the visibility of the maid's family, and how they feel it tarnishes the neighborhood. So, to the poster who started the thread about seeking liberal areas of Long Island, beware, because she (he?) seems to be in search of an area that is liberal, yet attractive. These things really don't go hand in hand, I'm afraid. Attractive = conservative, unless someone can prove me wrong.
