I liked going in there, grab a coffee and read whatever.
Will certainly miss that place. Especially the bargain table, coffee table books for $4.00
We still have Barnes & Noble, I believe all of them have cafes as well.
Personally I like Borders better and so it's a shame to see them go. Borders locations generally had much, much better military history sections than Barnes & Noble most of whom don't even have a military history section and barely even have a regular history section. The Bay Shore Barnes & Noble is especially horrid in this aspect.

Ditto!
Over the past few decades I noted how whichever bookstore chain earned my particular appreciation most that chain would become absorbed by one which catered to a less literary or scholarly customer. In order of preference, for me:
- Waldenbooks (price & variety, ability to get out-of-print books);
- Borders (a lesser version of Waldenbooks, still has a decent WWII selection, history 'zines, and non-fiction section...a little too much space for faddish pop culture stuff; self-help, "picture" books, and non-book items, can't get any out-of-"network" titles).
- Barnes & Noble (better than Borders re: games; but it seems 2/3+ of every store has little or nothing to do with literature for adults...seems geared toward women who don't really read anything to intellectually taxing and toward children under 20).

Reason: grammar
I will also miss Borders. I also preferred their selection, cafe, children's section to B&N. There is no substitution for browsing. When I've needed a review book for an exam, it really helped that I could look at the actual books, rather than choose one based on the recommedation from a friend or an online review.
