We are in Oceanside, and our Dept of Recreation camp covers kids grades 1 through 6, from 8 AM till 6 AM, I paid last summer less than $2K for 2 kids, 6 weeks, and that included trips. I had to feed them breakfast in the AM and they had to bring their own lunches, but they were given snack. This summer, my son is too old to go to it, so we have sent them to a sleepaway camp in Catskills, turned out to be about 30% cheaper than the local day camp at JCC. I feel your pain, though, it's never an easy solution with two working parents, and who gets home at 6 PM anyway these days?

He's been in day care since 8 weeks old, so, I'd rather he associate the summer with FUN as opposed to same old, same old....it's pricy (about 4600 for 8 weeks) but IMO worth it.

I don't want to post links here so google these places...having done extensive research on them, I think Kenwal offers the most bang for your buck.

Good Luck.
Make sure you chop off an arm and a leg each year to pay for these places....

You can also take a different route rather than a daycare and go onto care.com. It is a great website where you can search for nannies and babysitters. You can post a profile of exact details of days and times and what your needs are. There are tons of out of work teachers and others who are off for the summer who look for nanny positions just for the summer months.

Yes, I've checked this out for my own son (who will start Kindergarten next year). Kindercare has a summer camp program for kids K-6. The hours are 8-6 and every week there is a special theme.

I believe it's a little on the expensive side, but to keep them busy and keep me working, it's worth it.
