Thanks for the info, to clarify I have never used Chief Chimney, they were recommended to me, so sharing of your experience is appreciated.

I would bet that the "chief" himself is probably very good. But the reality is you aren't going to get the "chief". I know I didn't. I got some young kid who was extremely inexperienced and not cut out for the job in so many ways. It was scary to see who they sent instead of the "chief" himself. So for that, I say pass on this company, unless you are 100% sure the "chief" himself is coming, kwim?

My rec above...that's the great part. Mike will be the man who comes, and he does all of his own work. Doesn't send some young inexperienced kid to take care of something so serious as a chimney.

That's why any ad that states "Owner on site or job " is a plus MO

I had the same situation and got a new cap changed as there are holes on the old cap. I called All Island Roofing and Chimney including the cleaning, they charged me $160 and all done within an hour.

Who do I call about this? I've never had to deal with a chimney cap before--is this just a roofer? Or do I need to call (geez, I hope not) a chimney person? Chimney businesses are so notoriously unscrupulous. I'm in Northport, recommendations welcome. TIA

I had a guy pull up in a van with a florist name on it, knock on my door holding a steel chimney cap. He says to me"Everytime I pass your house it bothers me that your chimney cap is missing" I have my buddy with me and for $80.00 we can install this new one in 1/2 hour. I said no thanks and called the # on the van. The florist tells me they sold 2 of their vans to a chimney co a few months back and they should have had the florist's name removed. I did not trust this guy. For all I know he would have said I need to come and see your basement and where the chimney is and then I could have been hurt or robbed.

I have a similar story to you Lubby. I was living in queens and we had a gas boiler and we kept getting calls from chimney companies to do a cleaning. I figured I have been in the home 10 years so it should be worth it, the price was great so I called. I had to run out and my wife was home. Well they came to do a simple cleaning and told her the chimney was unsafe and the bricks were crumbling and it had to be replaced to the tune of thousands and for good measure they smelled gas and she needed to call Keyspan. Needless to say we never used their service.

My husband was upset because I was home alone and opened the door. Rightfully so.. had I been stupid enough to let the guy in who knows....He said anyone who solicits door to door selling whatever do not open the door even if their is a vehicle in the driveway when you are home alone. He said if we were having any kind of work done to the house he would let me know someone was coming.
