I'm a new long islander here, used to live in apts in NYC. recently moved into a house in li.
I noticed that for my split level house, the bedroom above my 2-car garage is much colder than other bedrooms. Does that mean the garage ceiling insulation is missing? What should I do to make this better? Thanks a lot!
It probably means that it's an extension to the house and wasn't "sealed" correctly.
I'd suggest blocking any draft you may have there. In cracks, ACs, windows, etc.
More than likely the total required baseboard length wasn't sized correctly. As mentioned above the garage is cold if not heated and and needs to figured in the design.
Check if any insulation in ceiling of garage first. If there is then more baseboard is needed.
I grew up in a room above the garage in a split. It's not an extension at all. I honestly didn't even notice any temp difference between that and other rooms. I would definitely suggest you get insulation in the garage ceiling.
the garage is not an extension. the house was built in 1950s.
the house has forced air heating. the master bed has 2 hvac registers already comparing to other bedrooms only 1. but it's still much colder than other bedrooms.
How can I insulate garage ceiling? is this an expensive project?
