I am planning a weekend to explore Long Island for the first time October 19-21. I heard the traffic on the LIE is horrendous before Labor Day when trying to get home on Sunday afternoon . Do I have to worry about that in October as well? This is also the weekend for the Hamptons Film Festival. Will this make traffic worse trying to get to the airport on Sunday afternoon?

Would love to explore the Hamptons, but don't want to worry about the drive back on Sunday and missing my flight !

Any tips appreciated. I am thinking about staying in Water Mill at a B&B called Pondview. If anyone has reviews about it,let me know or suggestions for another area away from the Hamptons for under $200/night.

Thank you !

You must ALWAYS plan around LI traffic. The only good times is between 2am and 4am.

It should be fine. Much East End traffic is Mem to Labor Day. That being said, I know vineyards are active during this time, and with the film fest, it may be busy. I wouldn't worry too much about it, though. Just plan accordingly. Maybe you could move the flight to Monday?

The vineyards and pumpkin picking create traffic. There is always lots of traffic on the roads just getting to the expressway, as well as on the LIE itself, so plan extra time. Enjoy your stay!
