I've seen this all over the country at Christmas time. I've never seen them fly through red lights or stop signs though. Mostly they just cruise through neighborhoods.

Ditto that. My guys just came by about an hour and a half ago. Lights on, sirens sounding and a PA with Santa yelling Merry Christmas everyone. Not speeding, going slowly through the neighborhoods, the neighbors all out waving and wide eyes kids. It is among our guys greatest pleasures to do this for the neighbors.
Can't do anything anymore without someone making a fuss.
Believe me, I'm sure they had better things to do on a Sat. However, it's nice they got Santa out for those who are not going to have a good Xmass. Along with those who appreciate it.
They should not be using property tax funded equipment for this purpose.
Yeah, just let it sit in the garage. Lucky we don't pay our fireman. Can you imagine what our taxes would be then? Let them have a little fun for the communities
For the few bucks for gas and wear & tear, that's the least we should be worrying about where our tax money goes.

Would you have the same opinion if the school district transportation department used school district buses for the same purpose, or if the town park department used town trucks, or if the municipal hospital ambulance driver used county owned ambulances, or if town sanitation department used town owned garbage trucks, or if water district staff used water district trucks ... ?

Bah Humbug!
For the pennies on the dollar is cost me to put a smile on kids faces, who cares?
Isn't that why they have the fancy member-only facilities and kitchens at the fire house.

If they should get into an accident while doing this, does the district's liability policy cover any damage to others and to district equipment?
