There have been several fox sightings in Babylon Village since last summer. Granted they are wild animals but how dangerous are they compared to, say, a raccoon (assuming they are around the same size)?

In the wild a raccoon can be more dangerous but considering they live among us and eat scraps, cat food,etc...they normally will just walk/run away when they see a human. When i've encountered foxes over the years even though only a couple of times, they too have run away or kept their distance. While doing a TDY in Germany while with the Air force, we were feeding a red fox fried chicken daily and he would come right up to you but would pull away if you tried to pet him.
I saw a dead one (sadly must have been hit by a car) in Williston Park about 2 weeks ago.
It's because ALL wildlife are being forced from their habitats due to man's overbuilding.
A dead fox in Williston Park? Wow, I would have thought that that area was too built up to have much wildlife other than rabbits and the odd raccoon or opossum.
A rabies alert for northern Westmoreland County has been issued by an area veterinarian because a rabid fox attacked two people seven days ago in Loyalhanna Township.
Thats interesting you see them on Long Island. I lived in London for years, we saw them all the time, urban red foxes. They make a heck of a racket when they copulate. I now live in lower Westchester, and we have deer, rabbits, possums and raccoons, but no hint of a fox.
I'm curious as to how far west they have been sighted.
We had them in Port Washington about 15 years ago. I poured myself a cup of coffee one morning and looked out my kitchen window only to see one in my back yard- that was bizarre.
My cousin, who lives in London, is always complaining about them messing up his garden. He lives in a row house and the fox jump from shed to shed across the back yards of the row houses at night.
