Hi everyone! I'm originally from NYC but moved to Florida when I was 9. I recently got accepted to NYU and am looking to move to Long Island with my boyfriend and two kids. I am aware of the expense difference and would not be looking into this if I wasn't able to afford it. I'm basically looking for towns to look into that have easy commutes to NYU. I know there's Hicksville, but I don't know of any others. Also, if the town has any managed apartment complexes that would help too, we're not looking to buy yet. Also kid friendly and good schools is a MUST. Safe area as well. It's part of the reason we're looking into Long Island instead of the city itself, for my kids. I'm assuming there aren't that many people looking to rent out their basement to a couple with two kids. Thank you!
Mineola , Floral Park, Rockville Centre, Port Washington, Manhasset are all easy commutes into NYC. As far as the schools go, RVC and Manhasset are said to be excellent. I would say the others are all close to each other and are good.
Westwood Village Apartments is in the part of Jericho that has a "Westbury, NY 11590" mailing address and is in the Jericho Union Free School District, and is just a short drive to the LIRR Hicksville railroad station.

What program are you going to NYU for? If you're doing an SCPS degree you should be fine commuting.
Any other school particularly Stern or Tisch, whether undergrad or masters, I think you'd be crazy to consider commuting from Long Island.
I'm sure plenty of people have done it and gotten good grades your head just won't be in the game at the same level as a commuter.
Yea I realize this is a broad blanket statement but if you're taking a rigorous program the closer you can get to school the better. If money isn't an issue get a 1/2BR in the village and send your kids to parochial school.
