I've seen a few posts in this forum listing the bad areas. What are the best areas today to buy a home and raise young children in Long Island? The North Shore preferably. Growing up NYC I've always heard that the North Shore is much better than Mid-Island and South Shore.
most of LI is pretty decent. Nowadays kids just need more love & attention. The material stuff & best schools or best areas is blown out of proportion & overrated. maybe some of the threads on this forum is starting to affect me
No one can really answer this without knowing your budget. We could list so many towns that you may not be able to afford. Also what are some other wants and needs of yours?
not being a homer but I find Glen Head to be a pretty great place to raise a family. Close to the quirkiness of sea cliff, pretty, quiet, great sports and you even get to go to playmates at mansions in old brookville (just to keep you grounded in reality)
I grew up on the south shore (Bellport Village, Hampton Bays) Wife grew up on the North (Wading River) and we are buying a home on the north shore (Shoreham). All that being said, both shores have their advantages. The North shore out east seems to be more quiet and a little nicer.

South shore has much more historic charm if you want my opinion (Sayville, Bellport, Babylon come to mind), but like others have said - both have there upsides/differences.
in this market, that'll work nearly anywhere save for the absolute most exclusive places
