We have a GE Harmony washer and dryer which is about 6 years old. The dryer broke about a year ago and we had an appliance guy come look at it. He said the motor was bad blah blah blah and it would cost 300-400 to repair. Me and my wife really felt this guy was shady. Can anyone recommend and honest/good appliance guy/company? We live in Deer Park. Thanks
For washer and dryers and mainstream appliances like GE or Kenmore, I've used Sears Home Appliance repair twice and they were pretty good. You could use them even if you didn't buy the appliances from Sears.
I have learned it is best to allocate about $125 per year per appliance for 6 years. I have found that 6 years is about the average life span on all appliances manufactured in the last 20 years. If it is something more than a basic troubleshoot or minor repair for myself I just replace them. The one thing that drives me nutz is these newer washing machines. I knew my maytag was about to go(7 years to the day) so I starting looking, they are all mostly automatic with HE electronic controllers.
There are very few manual type settings such as water settings etc. The washing machine crapped out that month and I was not replacing the transmission so I found a basic GE that seems to be ok.(not as good as the maytag was)

Garden City Appliance is excellent for repairs, the guy can fix anything. Whether he ranges as far as western Suffolk, you'd have to ask. 516-741-1656.
Cost of motor should run 150 to 250 $ Labor and service call can vary a lot 1 hour max to do the job.You could google the motor by putting in the Mfg and model # to get a more accurate price on the motor.I used to fix washers and dryers, parts are readly available either new or rebuilt.
here is a link for GE parts https://www.geapplianceparts.com/GEA...s/partsresults

Is it really worth investing money in a 6 year old appliance? At $250, you are half way to paying for a new one. JMO....I guess it depends on how much the unit cost you when it was new.
