Was this ever a real thought or possibility at one time?

We support rural upstate counties much more than Albany supports us. Although with the rate of LI decline, that could change in 20 years.
Just a thought... Perhaps our taxes would be cheaper then? Is that at all possible? If so, I might have to change my feeling on this topic.

Is it just me or does the original post sound like that stupid Newsday commercial with all the reporters talking about how great Long Island is? The only thing missing is how Long Island has a greater GDP than nations like New Zealand and some other countries.

Funny, do you really think that residents would allow the quality of life to dip one iota?
If anything they would have to go up because there is no outside source providing any money and a limited commercial base to draw on.

Is the supposed point of this just to keep more tax dollars at home? Holy Moses, my tax dollars are going to help others! Perish the thought!

Using that logic, why not break down every town into a separate state? Well then you won't want MAH TAXES going to support the poor side of town will you?

Why stop at just being a state, why not make Long Island it's own country? Call it Islandia. It it could even create it's own army and navy and get military aid from the US or China.

And then everyone can have a passport and go through customs to get to work.....until LI is determined to be a security threat and no one is allowed in the USA unless they have a special work visa.......

I fully support Long Island statehood 110%

We must be free from Albany as an equal among the states of the Union.

Edit: my definition of the State of Long Island is Nassau and Suffolk ONLY no Queens, no Brooklyn, no parts of NYC

It'd get a seat on the UN, and maybe since it was part of the US it'd even get a permanent seat on the Security Council.

Think big Islanders, Nationhood or Bust!
