Hi all,

I've been reading through for the forums for some time trying to pick a RE lawyer for an upcoming closing in Long Island (we're not at the offer stage yet), and are not sure what questions to ask / characteristics to look for in a good RE lawyer.

There seems to be a lot of recommendations here, and as someone has said "price is not indicative of service." I have no issue paying for good service, but also would rather pay less

I've narrowed down some choices to (from Yelp searches, in no particular order):

- O’Shea and Associates Law Firm PC
- Roger Pierro

I do not want to use what my agent recommends, since there's an inherent conflict of interest.

I'm open to other recommendations as well - thanks in advance!

Sent you a DM. Good idea on not using the RE agent recommended one.

Make sure that your lawyer's primary practice is real estate. I have seen too many deals get messed up because people used an attorney who had only done a few closings before.

^^I agree.

Use one who virtually only deals in real estate. Avoid using a family member who happens to be an attorney or your friend's neighbor cousin who happen to be a lawyer. Usually it gets messy
