The Long Island Power Authoritys agonizingly slow response to Sandy came after warnings as far back as 2006 that the utility was unprepared to handle a major storm, failed to upgrade antiquated technology, neglected vital maintenance and regularly underbudgeted for storm response.
Read the whole article. It discusses multiple things they ignored, plus how the hacks in top management and on the board are actually able to operate with a COMPLETE lack of oversight and supervision from anyone! It is a total clown show fit only for Ringling Brothers!

Things really, really need to change at LIPA!
I couldn't get thorugh the whole article because it's makes it clear early on how absurdly bad LIPA is run. They trim trees less than the industry standard 10 feet, sometimes not for 7 years..they stopped inspecting poles..they have computer systems that are decades old. Where is all of this money we are paying going? Someones pocket is getting lined.

Further in the story it says the utility is saddled with $7 BILLION in debt.

LIPA - pronounced [ "lie-pah"].... ok stop right there....
Is the Shoreham thing already done with or is it still part of the budget ? But I agree they do such a bad job at maintenance. And their tree trimming is a joke.

Re-direct that tax toward burying the power lines in 2019.
Gov. Cuomo's father had to made sure the multi-millionaire empty suits from LILCO were FULLY COMPENSATED from the "little people" (i.e., captive ratepayers) for the totally useless nuclear power plant that they decided to completely build BEFORE actually getting permission to operate. And that there, folks, is an example of how things were run with our electricity from the much-vaunted "private sector."
LIPA, the supposed savior to high rates, executive excess and incompetence, is what resulted because LILCO was so horrible. LOL! Someone tell me it's all a sick practical joke!
If we had that "useless" nuclear power plant now we'd be much better off. Cheap power rather than paying for a hole in the ground.
