In theory its the 2 second rule from a fixed object or 1 car length for every 10mph. At 60mph, thats 6 car lengths between cars. Never happen on the LIE. You'd have cars from Riverhead to the city line in the morning.

I just found out about this...link here:Police ID woman killed in fiery LIE pileup - NYPOST.com

I think drivers today are way too unpatient and obnoxious. I was at a red light with out a "no turn on red" sign but I didn't make a right because there were cars making a left hand turn and some of them were making a U turn so I didn't want to take any risks...what happens ofcourse? lady behind me starts honking....can't freakin wait for the light to turn green.

Exactly....it is optional, it is even banned in Queens, but some people are rude as hell and think they own the road.

Yeah but who's going to ban the poop? The smell surely will sicken some.

It is optional and its not just banned in queens, but all of NYC except where a sign permits it (opposite of everywhere else).

However it could be considered not friendly if you sit at an intersection with nothing coming sitting there with your turn signal on.

I didn't turn right today because I didn't want to make the turn and have the possibility of the other guy making a U turn and therefore resulting in a possible collision...but the idiot behind me didn't care.

Like you said, you had a car coming where you paths could have intersected. that makes it ok to wait.

After I made the right what does she do? floors it and gets in front of me, no signal. Probably gave me the finger too when she was next to me but I didn't bother to look. I hope she has good insurance because she's gonna need it.
