Hello All,
Looking for recommendations for a DIY home security system. I currently have my home alarm system with Slomins but their monthly monitoring fee is getting too expensive. Thank you in advance for any feedback.

FrontPoint Security.

I did tons of research on a security system after I purchased my first home. Their system is the easiest to install and gives you the most for their monthly fee. I can remotely arm and disarm, monitor the sensors, monitor door openings and closures, and the iPhone app pushes notifications to my phone to remind me to arm or when the system has been disarmed.

I installed all the sensors in less than 30 minutes. And it took me about another half hour to mount the control panel to the wall. That is not a requirement, but I wanted a clean look.

The system can also be "modified" down the line via the purchase of additional sensors. I can add a flood, smoke, or freeze sensor to the system and the control panel will monitor. The best thing about the system is the fact that its completely wireless. No wires for thieves to cut.

Thanks Vanilla, how much is the monthly monitoring fee? Thanks.

I believe its $42/month. If you don't need remote monitoring, you'll pay less.

A few months ago, I installed a system by Simplisafe: Home Security Systems | Wireless Home Security | Burglar Alarms
The monthly monitoring fee is $15, 20, or 25 depending on the options you want with no contract required. Hopefully, they will be adding features such as fire, CO, glass breakage detectors, and cameras in the future. Check out their forum by clicking on the "Community" button. I've been pleased with the system so far.

Matt
