Where I did Glen Cove in the 40s building forts in the woods on two sides of my house,a ten minute walk to swim in two different beaches, and a creek to fish in,a couple blocks to a field to play ball in.
I would say Brooklyn from the 1930's until the late 1970's. I was not around before 1971 but I like watching old movies that take place in brooklyn during these times.
I’d have to agree, if I could have grown up anywhere on Long Island and at any time, it would have to be when and where I did…in West Islip in the 1970’s and early 80’s. So many fond memories of riding bicycles, roller skating, walking up to the 5&10 or Carvel, going to the beach, playing outside with friends until the street lights came on, catching lightning bugs and salting slugs (yep, gross!). Don’t remember all the worries there are today with terrorism and child abductions, although I’m sure there was stuff going on, it just didn’t seem as prevalent. The whole time I was growing up I don’t think the lock on our back door even worked, only it wasn’t something to worry about. It was a quiet little neighborhood.
While I do agree with your list, I'm curious, why Sound Beach during the '70's?
The stories were great. it was pretty much the end of the Beach years and the beginning of year round residency.
Neat little hideaway that many overlooked. The last hold out of a bygone era.
Lake Panamoka was too. VERY un LI. Still holds a good piece of that charm is some areas.
Well, I was tiny in the 50's... elementary grades in the 60's.. and didn't hit legal drinking age until the early 70's... and it was 18 at the time.
So yeah..... birth to 18..........that's growing up to me!
