Hello all,

I am thinking about relocating after separating from my spouse. I'm looking for a reasonable (ha!) priced development on Long Island. I currently live in Nassau, and it is just too expensive. I don't want to be in someone's house as I have had my own home for 23 years.

Is anyone familiar with Manor Gardens in Bay Shore? Or any other reasonably priced developments in the area?

If you mean the "Bay Shore Manor" apartments, I live close by and they're pretty shady. Never a good sign when an apartment complex in Suffolk County has a 718 number on its signs. There are a couple of smaller new apartment developments here (one across from the LIRR station and one at Main St & 1st Ave) that are worth a look, but the big complexes here are hit or miss.

Thanks s13.

That's the one yes. The management company owns a few buildings, and may be based out of Queens.

But is the area or development bad?

Do you have the names of any decent complexes?

Thanks Big Blue, but everything in Babylon seems to be $1450 and up for a one bedroom. I was hoping to spend a little less than that.

I see a Bay Shore Gardens Apts, 425 E. Main St in Bay Shore, a few blocks east of the hospital.

Anyone know how this one is?

Don't know too much about those, but there are some decent apartments south of Montauk Hwy along Clinton Ave. One of my buddies has an apartment down there, a little pricey but he enjoys it. That said, I'm pretty sure they're all owned/operated by Fairfield Properties which have had their share of unsatisfied customers, so your mileage may vary.

I grew up in Bay Shore and they were questionable then. Not recommended. The ones on Garfield (Manor) are better just for location alone. Try the Fairfield ones just east of South Shore Mall along Brook Av. They always were halfway decent. Also on South Clinton is a Fairfield Apt complex.Of course you will have the anti-Fairfield people complaining about deposit returns but they are kept up.

Thanks again guys(?). I have spent a lot of time on apartments dot com and apartmentratings dot com. and I found an acquaintance who has lived in the Babylon area a long time. I actually did work in Bay Shore like 3 decades ago, LOL. But I didn't hang out there.

I think I am going to go through Perpslist and look for half of a private house around Babylon. That should drop the monthly rent from 1450 or so for a complex, to 1100-1150, but I will prob have to pay a brokers fee.

OP what is your opinion of a decent place to live?

Ive never lived in those personally but Ive been in and around both of those complexes you are talking about.

I have walked(stumbled) to and from downtown Bay Shore at 9 pm and at 4 am many times with no issues when I was in my party years. A friend lived in the ones right behind the the Quinn's bar at the train station, never had a problem. But if you are scared to live with a diverse population then its not for you.
