I fly out of ISP every couple months. I have been doing this regularly for about 4-5 years now. I have NEVER, NEVER ONCE, had to wait to go through security. I have always been able to walk up and start unloading my crap usually behind 5 or so people in front of me. Sometimes even just walk right through. Maybe it's the time of day, as I usually fly out after 5pm on Wed, Thu, or Fri.
I probably spend more time checking my luggage in... there's usually a giant family in front of me who act like they've never been to an airport before with 18 children and 30 pieces of luggage, no printed boarding passes, no id's or oh wait sorry am I ranting
I think the bigger variable is train to Ronkonkoma.
Then if you want to take the $5 shuttle that thing is spotty at best as far as pick up time goes (usually easier just to take a cab).
Finally, Southwest tends to try and start boarding ASAP. I've ran late to a flight before and got to the gate 30 minutes before the flight and they were already boarding...

I think it depends a lot on when you fly out.
I got to the airport around 10am, and waited in line for about three minutes before I could unload my stuff. I spent more time going through security than I did waiting (went through the body scanner, then a pat down
)
As far as the cab goes, I went to the cab, but the driver said there was a shuttle out front getting ready to leave. He said they try to have a van there for every Ronkonkoma arrival train (during the week, they have two vans running back and forth).
It's funny, a lot of people dislike the Southwest boarding practices, but I found it to be really organized. The issue is making sure you check-in as soon as possible, as to get a good position. On both my flight leaving ISP, and my connecting flight, we were ready for takeoff early. As they say on the intercom to the late stragglers, "At Southwest, we love you, but we will leave you!"
Anywhoo, ISP is a nice little airport-- too bad I have to fly back in to LGA when I come back
