I never said not to water the grass, just not to water it while the suns is out. I water my grass between 3-4 am and my grass has been growing just fine and very green. My sprinklers have a rain sensor so that it will not over water. The only time I have issues with fungus is when it rains for days on end, but there isn't much you can do about that.

Most locations say avoid watering during the heat of the day because you have a higher evaporation rate and less water gets into the ground. Early morning/ pre-dawn is good because it can soak in before the sun evaporates it and excessive night time watering can lead to fungal growth.

Or don't water and let it go dormant for the summer, once steady rains return it will green up again. But the horror of having a brown lawn....

I was very frugal watering the lawn this year so I got huge dry patches off late. Since past 2 weeks, I started to water every other day for 25 mins per zone at 5:30 in the morning. The lawn is responding wonderfully.
Just my observation.

That's the main reason for not watering it in the middle of the day. Not much will be drawn in by the grass.

Best times is early morning or evening after the sun goes down but still light out.

I do 20 minutes per zone starting at 4:00 AM. The grass (and the weeds) seem to like it.

Right now I am running every day but when the heat subsides I'll probably change it to every other day.

Don't some towns not allow watering everyday?

Possibly. I haven't heard anything about that though. Will have to look into it.

6pm? I'll have to stop by and get cooled off by your sprinklers.
