Has anyone noticed an uptick in spiders, slugs and katydids the last few weeks, or is it just me? I keep pulling slugs off our patio and storage box, and spiders (the really big, scary-looking kind) and katydids keep surfacing on or near our house. We do live bordering a park, but I don't remember this happening last summer, somehow...

Yes all the way down into the mid-atlantic states. Probably due to such a wet spring/summer. But they will have a short season as the night air falls into the low 50's this weekend.

We had a hawk in our backyard 2 days ago. Good thing we don't have a very small dog.

Seen lots of dragonflies this summer which is a great thing, they suck up the mosquitoes. Far more effective and safe than those silly spraying operations (which coincidentally kill off dragonflies as well as mosquitoes, however mosquitoes breed much faster).

Speaking of critters, the last couple of years I have seen raccoons, oppossums, and rabbits in Queens. I never saw them before and I'm not sure where they are coming/migrating from.
