Well, imagine you've been living someplace your whole life, and one day planes start flying over every 90 seconds. You live nowhere near the airport at all. The noise of whining jet engines is so bad tonight I had to close my windows, and yet I still can't sleep! You cant deny the facts that the 22 runway usage is way up, it used just be used on strong southerly wind days, now it's used most of the time. Take tonight, the wind is light southwesterly at JFK, but they still use it. FAA wants to cram as many planes in as possible, without regard to the community or safety.
And in the event of a 22 runway, the planes should follow the LIE like they are supposed to, and turn over Floral Park (which is closer to the airport), instead of plauging places like Westbury, Garden City, Mineola with whining and roaring every 90 seconds. 3 planes just passed over while typing this!

This line invalidates your entire complaint. Unless you're posting from Montauk, you live "near the airport."

crv1010, kindly keep the idiotic "aircraft noise meeting" posts contained to one thread.

I lived very closely to the LIE, the railroad, and back then had the CONCORDE, fly over our house, and we didn't care.

so basically this is a NIMBY thread. Why should Floral Park suffer?

The Airplane Noise from LaGuardia Airport has been the backdrop violating my airspace for close to 30 years now. I am surprised there is a chance of it getting worse with new plans. Add to this the possibility of aggravating another long term noise issue, it isn't fair.

I am surprised other folks are being annoyed recently as it has been a real issue for many, many years. I have lost countless sleep and rest hours, unable to relax and recover, arriving at job after job in a disgruntled state of mind, it is not a surprise I feel I have lost good jobs over these forms of what I look at as "aggravated harassment."

It is not worth it, paying through the nose to keep a home in a noise-crazy zone like this one! I have lost almost everything due to the stressors in this area, both the Airplane Traffic , the Drag Racers and the Bar Patrons!

Cross-Sampling of Noise Complaints: Long Term Noise Issues w LETTER TO COMMUNITY BOARD: Complaint Ongoing for the Last 29 years of Family Living Across Street From: The Diver's Cove Bar 2901 Francis Lewis Boulevard Flushing, NY 11358
(718) 352-9631

7 Smokers Using Bar Curb Outside Diver's Cove Cafe 11 months of the year North FLU *****ABOUT 311*****311 is my favorite, but non-working #. I keep a file since 311 began, of every complaint #, almost always due to noise from bar/outside or drag racing or parking with boom boxes playing noise at full volume. While police may show up an hour or two later, problem is over by then or they leave and problem returns. This is the "hopelessness" part of my story, concerning 311 and new smoking regulations which force these people outside. The streets become their clubhouses and offices, where they welcome and are welcomed by honking horns and invite loitering.

Divers Cove bar situation unchanged since Mayor Bloomberg's plan to put smokers outside on the curb. While his intentions are pure, the results have been a nightmare of daily zombie drunks sitting on chairs provided by bar, unzoned for outside cafe, smoking cigarettes and greeting curbside cars from 10 am until closing, around 4 am, DAILY, year round!!

Complaint DAILY:

I was also an avid noise caller to NY's 109th before the outside smoking went into effect, since I have been here almost 30 years. The Block Association started a campaign when I belonged to it 28 years ago, in an effort to halt the motorcycle and car drag racing on Francis Lewis Blvd., as well as the over-drinking and fights from the bar. Give me time and I could find hundreds of futile attempts to control a horrible, exasperating, life-threatening noise nightmare outside all my windows, almost all year round. I need to sell my house, who would be it if the hear this crap!

I would have taken part in campaigns against airplane noise but there weren't any and I had to pick and chose the closer to the 3 evils around here. I've also been part of campaigns to stop the selling of loud car and motorcycle equipment, with laters that read in part:

" This is, in part, because these pipes are perfectly legal to buy and sell. Therefore, we would like to approach this problem on two levels. The first being the swift and efficient implementation of municipal by-laws that would outline specifically how loud is too loud, and the enforcement of those by-laws. The second being a ban on the sale of any parts that modify the sound level of a vehicle in a negative way. Noise pollution is a serious concern for urban dwellers and can negatively, and sometimes permanently impact the health and well-being of citizens." THIS ALSO INCLUDES AIRPLANE NOISE POLLUTION, of course.

Autoracer, sabbat, isles, S13, I invite the four of you to attend Monday's meeting so each of you could become educated on the issues. Come & experience first hand how some residents are being subjected to 6,500 planes per month at altitudes of 1,500 ft 15 to 20 miles from JFK. I'm confident your sentiments would change!
