I read about an off duty NCPD detective who died in a car accident. It has nothing to do with his death but he was making $200k a year as a detective and I'm sure he's not the only one. This is not commentary on his tragic death but how does anyone justify paying a cop $200k?

and justify cops that couldnt shine the shoes of an NYPD rookie.

Its the politicians giving into the union and the union always screaming about increased crime if they dont get everything they deserve.

People working for the counties out there have it made. It's not like you can simply refuse to pay your taxes, because then the county takes your house, so if they say "hey we need to raise your taxes because we have 50 detectives and that costs us $10 million", we just grumble on the internet and pay it so our families can still live in their homes.

If this were any other private company and they asked for 200k for a job others do for less than half of that (e.g. NYPD), they'd get laughed at and kicked out of the room. Same goes for LI teachers...and garbage collectors...ad naseum...

In all honesty, the cops salaries are high but when you look at the overall tax bill for just county services, no one would ever complain if that is all they had to pay.

We all know its the school tax that is killing long island. But every parent just beams that their Penelope Snowflake is going to the bestest of the best school district. Then she will go on to a great university and major in art history to only move back unemployed to live with the doting parents.

Yeah, it's parents vs. non-parents. Right. Is there a category of people we won't blame anymore? Rhetorical.

Plenty of parents with kids in school don't like when they get their tax bill (and realize the causes) regardless of how good the schools are. Whether anything is in our power or ability to change is another story.
