Hi I am looking for a non basement legal apartment in nassau county a question area. i would prefer a upstairs 1 bedroom. if they allow animals that would be great if not its ok i don't have any pets i want to adopt one. I am looking good area, low crime, mid to western nassaau count.
I am 33 no kids, quiet, don't smoke, no drugs, no kids, work full time.
if any one knows of any apartment please let me know
$1100 will not get you out of a basement. Which is why we are not moving..but looking all the time. Would never live in basement apt. unless circumstances forced it. Finding a non-basement apt that is decent is hard. Practically impossible in a good area. Have some problems where we are now but are well aware what is out there and know nothing is better than what we have for the price we pay now. Above ground, no shared walls, on the water, driveway, yard, privacy.
All except for a newly moved in neighbor on same property who has way too much company. Business meetings all the time, cars, people galore. Luckily I do not think it will last and they will be out soon. I am not the only one on the block complaining. Sadly we share driveway and property. Hopefully they will be out before nice weather comes.
Good luck finding what you are looking for at 1100. Where in Nassau are u looking?
I am prob going to end up staying in brooklyn and not interested in that. I grew up here and i want out. maybe i should go back to suffolk and just do the commute.
My aunt and her boyfriend rent out a two bedroom upstairs for $1300 in West Babylon (they worked out a deal with the landlord because her boyfriend does electrical work and offered to do that when needed).
When we rented, we rented in East Northport a one bedroom for $1400.
All of those are good areas in Suffolk. Unfortunately, it is hard to get a place in Nassau that isn't a basement for more then your budget. You might have to do some digging. It's not impossible (my boss does it), but you will have to really look. Having a second person rooming with you makes a huge difference budget wise.
The rental situation on Long Island is really sad for single individuals. You either resign to living in a crappy area or living in a basement.

Commute to where?
I had a commute from Nassau to lower Manhattan that was tortorous
Really? I got the entire 1st floor of a house for 1600/month (had to pay 75% oil and 75% electric). Not being sarcastic or anything, just curious if rents have gone up that much or if I just got lucky.

OP said budget is 1100. Probably figuring on it including all utilities. The 1600 you are paying is 500 more than 1100, plus you stated you are paying for utilities. Rather big difference.
