His advice to William Wilhelm De Blasio, who no doubt under the surface whole heartedly agrees:
“I know how difficult it’s going to be to fight Albany to get a tax on the wealthy folks to solve this problem. But I have a suggestion that I would offer for your consideration,” began Mr. Dinkins, whose head was projected behind Mr. de Blasio on a screen."
This will never happen, but is just emblematic of how sinister the New York brand of progressivism is. The middle class always gets scr-wed and winds up having to pay the price for all of these failed social experiments. The rich never pay. They either lobby hard for exemptions, move their earnings off shore, or legally move to Florida for 180 days out of the year. Same thing with the overcompensated public employee unions. Public employee unions demand a "fair wage," and extractions from the rich, but it always falls on the dwindling middle class to pick up the slack. NYS really is really now just a place for the filthy rich & welfare poor.
It's been happening for years... the only difference is especially now taxes are becoming unfeasible for the middle class to bear. Foisting more taxes on working people (and I mean real working people, not the 'Working Peoples' Party, a thinly disguised part for big labor) are going to break the backs of many families budgets. With private business compensation not even keeping pace with inflation and the mass exodus of private business from NY-LI, the politicians had better note they're are playing with fire here. Keep spend-n-tax budgets growing and you'll definitely have a Detroit situation on your hands.

Here is a novel idea for those in NYC who want pre-k for their children that can be an alternative solution for the incoming mayor. It worked for us. Our kids enjoyed the benefits of Pre-K, and years later are indeed successful.
Find a private school that offers pre-K programs. research carefully. ask the opinions of parents who sent their kids to the school.
If you're happy with their input, go home, and write a check from your checkbook for your child's tuition, or pay online.
Brilliant idea Mr. Dinkleberry.
LI tax payers already support most of NY state, a couple bucks more won't hurt our pockets right?
Who's in? My check for $2.67 is in the mail...

It's clearly a racially infused comment targeted at the largely white, affluent population in the suburbs.
You'll remember Mayor Dinkins, a failure of a mayor, whose directive to NYPD was to stop making street-level drug arrests. And this resulted in the bloody crack epidemic, where a car parked on the street was guaranteed to be broken into and robbed. He was racist then and he's a racist now.
