I just calculated my last 12 month oil bill. It came out to $6164.53. I just want to compare other home owners oil bill vs mine. Please let me know how much you paid for the past 12 month?
I asked my sister, she has gas in her home and paid $840 for the past 12 month. Her kids out of home, she keeps the temp. like 65 or something like that. But still I am getting ripped off from oil company.

Thanks.
What everyone pays is going to be relative to several factors. How much are you paying per gallon and how many gallons are you going through? Size of your house, insulation, age of windows, doors, etc, has a lot to do with it.
Our tank is 200 gallons. When we fill up in May it lasts us until the end of Aug/early Sept. We turn down the temperature for the hot water because it doesn't need to be at 120 degrees during the summer and we don't take long hot showers. From Oct to April we average about $4800, depending on the temperature. For the year we average about $5400-$5500 (depends on the price of oil).
Gas is cheaper but I've never heard of $840 for the whole year. How big is her house?
840 is pretty low but if it's only at 65 when it's on I can see it. We paid 1124 last year for a 2700sf but both floors aren't on at the same time. When we had oil in a 1300sf Levitt we were slightly above 2500/yr at about $3.50/gal and tried to conserve a lot. I'm curious what others tally up to these days too.
I live in a split level, roughly 2400 sq feet. My gas bill the last 12 months was about $1700. I have 2 zones and one was left at 73 for most of the winter because i had a family member staying in one zone. The year before it was $1300. I had converted from a 25 year old burner that ran through oil ($3600/year at $3.40/gal). Was definitely a colder winter.
45'x35' ranch w full finished basement w/separate thermostat up/downstairs. 3 adults.
we use about 750 gallons of oil per year.
keep the house 67/62 with auto thermostat .
2,300sf stucco Tudor built 1924 on three levels. Replacement windows, new energy efficient gas boiler, no insulation in the walls. Keep it at 68 degrees 24/7.
My gas bill (including cooking gas) for a brutal February was $507. With our old oil burner we would probably have used 400 gallons @ $4.15/gallon = $1,660.
I urge everyone who uses oil that has gas on the street to convert today. If you don't have the 10 grand or whatever it costs, and you have equity in your house, get a line of credit to pay for it. It will pay itself back in four years, and you will increase the value and marketability of your property if you should decide to sell. There is nothing wrong with oil heat, but the price has become a major sticking point to many buyers.
Around 3500 last year. We have a programmable thermostat set to 56 at night then up to 62 for morning prep and afternoon family time. We have a 1000 sq foot ranch with the old aluminum windows and a new roof.
