My husband bikes from Greenlawn to the Huntington LIRR when the weather is nicer. No issue. Takes the same amount of time as it does to drive. Says he locks his bike on a bike rack.

Dont know if I'd trust those bike racks, I've read reports of bikes being stolen at Huntington Station, consider the area in the vicinity and it's not surprising. At Hicksville I've seen bikes at the racks with their wheels stolen off. Its most likely the illegals that live in the vicinity stealing them. It's a shame bikes are not allowed on rush hour trains, the LIRR could probably add interior bike racks on trains with minimal passenger space lost, but they choose not to. Once in the city it's much more bike friendly and then commuters could skip the subway & bike instead. But I bet the MTA doesn't like that (less fare revenue!) hence the bike restrictions on the LIRR.
So in the meantime just get a cheap bike, I wouldn't trust parking a Cannondale or any other high end bike on those racks at Huntington (or any LIRR station) for that matter.

I used to bike to the Greenlawn LIRR occasionally (when I lived near there). A bit friendlier to bike to then the Huntington one, which has some busy approaches.
