Hi,

I am looking to have installed a split-pack AC system in a few rooms of the house. For a variety of already researched reasons this mini-system makes more sense for me than a full central AC zone for these rooms.

Has anyone had this installed and been happy with price and quality?

What brand of equipment type/size?

Contractor name?

Price?

I hate to go the Lowes/Depot installer route with things like this.

Thanks!

We had 2 Mitsubishi minisplits installed in 5 rooms in December to replace electric baseboard heating (and window unit AC). They were expensive to get installed, but our home is much more comfortable than it was. Also, in spite of the colder temperatures (and the PSEG raise in rates) this year our bills were actually lower. We do have a problem with noise on one of the 5 interior units that we are trying to get worked out but overall we are happy. Contractor was Gelber and Sons. Price is immaterial because the install depends on the house - we had 5 interior units so looking at a bigger pricetag (still cheaper than converting to oil for us).

You want to pay a reputable installer so that you can benefit from the manufacturer warranty (either 5 or 7 years). We installed 4 Mitsubishi mini splits (heat and cooling) earlier this year. Can't rave enough about Stanley Gelber and Sons. Apple Air Conditioning also gave a good price but we opted to pay more to go the permitted route with Gelber.

You can do the cooling only, it should save you some cash just not sure how much.

Mitsubishi Is the way to go......Heat optioon is only a few hundred dollars more....not bad option if your central heat goes down in February.

Size of unit is dependant on many factors.....sizing too big or too small can lead to issues.
