Hi. We are looking in the DIx Hills/Melville area and it has been so quiet on the mls website-do you think it will take until spring or do sellers start after New Years? Also, how are the real estate sales in that area-we will be both buying and selling? Thanks-Amy

Aug and Dec are typically the slowest months in RE. I'd say Jan things start to pick up again.

I would say many houses will come on/back on probably the beginning of March to be sure. Unless someone needs to sell asap, most people don't like to sell in the winter for many reasons. I too check MLS and find it very slow, and figured it would be that way based on the month/season.

our realtor told us most houses come on the market in the spring since that's the best time to sell.

Currently there are 278 homes listed for sale in Dix Hills and Melville. Of those 135 were listed with the last 90 days.

It seems like things pick up in March. Thats the time most people begin to sell. I was looking in March and thendecided not to move until this year. The really nice homes flew off the MLS and there are still many homes sitting that were listed last year. I think that some people will list early and hope to get first dibbs at new buyers.
