Can anyone recommend a good engineer/home inspector. I want someone who will really pick apart the property and look into every nook and cranny. I'd prefer someone who looks at a lot of homes in the Stonybrook and Setucket areas. I'd also love recommendations on good real estate lawyers general contractors, lead testers, and pest inspectors. Any other recommendations, I'd be happy to take them.
Thank you for the quick replies. I'd also love to hear about people to stay away from. Please put both good and bad recommendations here. Also for those real estate agents out there, please include the names of inspectors who did a a great job for their clients, but may have been a bit of a pain for you to deal with.
Try Tauscher inspectors - I think they're out of Rockville Center. Because they aren't local to the Stony Brook/Setauket areas, you will get an unbiased evaluation - I'm leery of taking a recommendation from a realtor - last time I did that the engineer/inspector was working for the realtor and basically said in his report that the house I ended up buying was quite sound - which it wasn't.
Stay away from Peppaceno Construction (Dominick Peppeceno)...he took off on us with over $100K and left our home completed gutted, down to the studs in October of 2006. His Suffolk License # was BS, and Consumer Affairs did not have him as a licensed contractor.
I'd recommend Kings Bay Inspection Services (Kings Bay Inspection - Home and Commercial Inspections). They post a lot of useful info on this forum under the user name kbinspections. Search for their posts and you'll see what I mean.
