Not conventional, street-view photos of Long Island but a google-earth styled birds eye viewed. I need a program that allows me to channel through different time era's much like the NYC GIS map:

NYCityMap • DoITT • City-Wide GIS

Is there a Long Island equivalent to that?

Yep! Gotta love that site!

OP, Depending on what parts of LI you're interested in, you might want to look-up James Mooney Photography. I'm not sure how much of LI he photographed in the 50's and 60's- but I sure love his very clear and detailed arial photos he shot of Ronkonkoma and surrounding areas! I believe there are some books of his work, and some images are online; and some are displayed in historical societies, and even in stores. (The now-defunct Robin's Hardware in Ronkonkoma used to display a lot of his stuff in the 80's/90's...which is how I discovered them)
