Find the blue shaded area. That area is free. Entrance is on 7th street. Walk to the station is about 2-3 minutes. Only problem is crossing the street on Chestnut avenue. There is no stop sign for cars and the turn underneath the bridge is hidden. They should really add a stop sign.

If you live in GC, there are very few places where you can't walk to a station from your house. NHP, Stewart Manor, Merillon Ave., Nassau Blvd, Garden City, Mineola, Country Life Press....seven stations to pick from and we don't have a big village. Just get some comfortable shoes on and walk. The laziness for some is astounding. I live about a 4 minute walk from Nassau Blvd and I have a neighbor that drives LOL

If you can't walk for health reasons or distance, then I think you are better off going to Mineola if you are on the east side of town or Nassau Blvd or SM on the west side of town (easy parking and very good commute in the morning especially...evening is another story).

If you can't walk for health reasons why go to Mineola where it will be harder to get a seat on the train?
Also, I can see driving to the train if you need to work late a lot.

Sure. Just make sure to use good locks, and don't park an expensive bike. Be prepared for it to be stolen (that's not only for Stewart Manor but all over LI).

Stewart Manor is only three miles away (on the eastern side of GC), so it's not far and is closer to Penn than the Garden City station.
The Hempstead train line is a disaster. They are ending all the direct trains to Brooklyn and all the Brooklyn trains with scheduled transfers in favor of the Jamaica - Brooklyn shuttle. Because of the $5 round trip tickets they give to the Queens residents - the trains are extremely overcrowded - 200 people will jam on between Hollis - Queens Village - East Nostram. They also put the UBS stop on that line so tons of kids when there are concerts and other events and then all the Islander fans - in gear with beer. This is why the Garden City residents take the Mineola train line instead. My kids even drive further North sometimes to get a Hicksville connection and will probably do that more when they change the schedules to eliminating the Brooklyn trains. Also they said the draft schedule actually splits the rush hour trains between Penn and Grand Central so if they go up to Penn - which they will have to do because there are no more direct Brooklyn trains - and they miss a train - the wait for the next one will be an hour.

Not sure if all train schedules are being so hard hit but check the draft schedules because that makes the biggest difference between going to Mineola - Hicksville - Jamaica for the transfers. Garden City has only the Jamaica hub where people are getting on with their $5 tickets instead of hopping the subway like they used to.

Hicksville is 5 miles east of Garden City, further from NYC and a 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic. Plenty of connecting trains from Mineola. I don’t know anyone who would go to Hicksville just to avoid changing at Jamaica.

I partly agree. The Brooklyn schedule will impact all lines, not only Hempstead. However, I don't like the extra UBS stop, and the new schedule for GCM is a disaster. But again, for most lines.

With the current schedule, I like the Hempstead line since I'm on an express train to Penn. With the new schedule that's gone. Unfortunately I am within walking distance from CLP so going to Mineola will be a nuisance.
